ICC T20 Cricket world cup 2024
The ninth iteration of the International Cricket Council (ICC) Men’s T20 World Cup, a biennial Twenty20 International (T20I) competition featuring men’s national teams, will take place in 2024. From June 1 to June 29, 2024, the United States and the West Indies will co-host it.It is the first significant ICC event tournament with matches held in the Americas outside of the West Indies, including the United States. The 2010 edition was held in the West Indies, where they are hosting the T20 World Cup for the second time. After defeating Pakistan in the previous edition’s final, England is the defending champion.
A record 20 teams—up from 16 teams in the 2022 tournament—are competing in the tournament. These teams are the two hosts, the top eight teams from that edition, the next two teams ranked in the ICC Men’s T20I Team Rankings, and eight teams that were selected through regional qualifiers. In addition to the United States, who is playing in the men’s T20 World Cup for the first time as co-hosts, Canada and Uganda also qualified.

Structure

Four groups of five teams each have been formed from the 20 qualifying teams; the top two teams from each group move on to the Super 8 phase. The qualifying teams will be divided into two groups of four at this point, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the knockout stage, which consists of two semifinals and a championship match.

Selection of hosts :

The United States and the West Indies will host the 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup, according to an announcement made by the International Cricket Council (ICC) in November 2021.As part of a strategic cooperation between the two associations, Cricket West Indies and USA Cricket jointly submitted a bid after two years of planning.

Teams that will Qualify for semi final and final:

The two hosts and the top eight teams from the 2022 competition automatically advanced to the event. As of November 14, 2022, the top-ranked teams in the ICC Men’s T20I Team Rankings that had not yet guaranteed a spot in the finals claimed the remaining two automatic qualification spots.

The ICC’s regional qualifiers, which included of two teams each from Africa, Asia, and Europe and one each from the Americas and East Asia-Pacific groups, were used to fill the eight open spots. The ICC validated the sub-regional qualification routes for Africa, East Asia-Pacific, and Europe in May 2022.
