“This is definitely not a transsexual case. There has been some disarray that in some way it’s a man battling a lady. This is simply not the situation. On that there is agreement, deductively this isn’t a man battling a lady.”

Khelif has spoken about her experience of growing up as a young lady in Algeria and the bias she confronted playing football close by young men.

“Try not to let obstacles get in your way; confront and overcome any challenges,” she said in March 2024. “My dream is to win a gold medal.

“If I succeed, parents will see how far their children can go. I especially want to inspire girls and disadvantaged children in Algeria.”
